About Hamsa
A magazine for Sadasyas by Sadasyas
The Hamsa Magazine was a quarterly publication created as an act of seva (service) by the dedicated Vedic students of Acharya Shunya at Vedika Global, Inc. It served as a study aid to support the mananam process (contemplation). Compiled and published from 2014 - 2018 under the chief editorship of Sadhvi Ishani, the magazine emerged from sessions with Acharya Shunya, where students engaged in 'shravanam' (deep listening) and 'niddhysanam' (contemplation and application), reflecting on the teachings to integrate the wisdom into their lives.
Hamsa: A Symbol of Spiritual Discernment and Growth
The name "Hamsa," given by Acharya Shunya to this student-led initiative, carries profound spiritual significance. In Vedic tradition, "Hamsa" symbolizes the divine swan, an embodiment of discernment that can differentiate between "asat" (untruth) and "sat" (truth), "preyas" (the pleasant) and "shreyas" (the beneficial), and "yoga" (the path of transcendence) and "bhoga" (the path of indulgence). By choosing this name, Acharya Shunya highlighted the magazine's role in guiding spiritual seekers to cultivate discernment, encouraging them to choose wisdom over ignorance, spiritual growth over worldly pleasures, and ultimately, to progress on the path of self-realization.
