Is my ego in my dream state?

Last night I had an unusual lucid dream. Usually if I have a lucid dream I simply become alert and aware that I’m dreaming while in the dream. This time that was again the case, but I was looking at a beautiful home under a blue sky in a settlement of sorts when I suddenly realized I had created it. In the lucid dream I contemplated how in my waking state I’m nowhere near as creative as the house I was so drawn to in the dream. My observation widened to include the whole scene, the beautiful weather, the buildings, the people. I couldn’t believe I’d created it and yet that was the perspective that was in my mind.

So where does the content in our dreams come from? Does our mind create what we see? What part of it? Is the dream state of our awareness part ego and part observer? Is the content of some dreams inspired by ego while that of others comes directly from spirit?

I’m not really looking for firm answers, but I’m open to any lineage wisdom or others thoughts. The dream state of awareness has always been a rich memory in my waking state.

What perfect timing for this question, flowing river. In the Key Vedanta Concepts series we have been touching the edges of your question, and then at the end of May we will get to some direct teachings from Acharya Shunya's satsanga on the 4 States of Consciousness - waking, dreaming, deep sleep, and transcendental.

You may find some more fuel for your contemplations in the satsangas and discussion on Samsara, Brahman, Maya and Sakshi in the Key Vedanta Concepts playlist here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDR12noB1WYcHj1iMi-QfNRavUJ1njl6C&si=XtmH2kPm0MUmEEVr

The satsangas there explore Advaita Vedanta's teachings on the reality we create in the mind, the nature of this external reality (and questioning if it's as 'real' as we think it is). If you are asking these questions about the dream world, enjoy the reality-bending that happens when we start asking the very same questions about the waking world!

Would enjoy hearing more of your contemplations on all that you have shared.

Warmly, Sadhvi Ishani
