Night Mantras

Jai Maa

Thank you, Sadhvi Ishani for your teaching on the night mantras. I was listening to it tonight on youtube. What a lovely way to enter sleep. It was very touching how you explained it.

I have a question. How many times do we chant the mantra that begins with Om, Asato Maa Sad Gamaya? Just once or multiple times until we sink deeply into feeling it? Just wondering what Shunyaji suggests in this regard.

Also what does Maa mean in these contexts.

Thank you in advance.

I listened to that YouTube video as well, and this has been a mantra I’ve felt very drawn to, sometimes chanting it for quite some time. (It hadn’t occurred to me that maybe some mantras aren’t meant to be repeated or just for a short time or specific number of repeats.)

One day as I began chanting it there was no shift to be had. I was perceiving the whole mantra from a shifted state, similar to what Sadhvi Ishani intimates.

For me it seems this mantra’s simplicity facilitates letting go of my thinking mind. I’ve also used it to help me fall back asleep when I’ve had insomnia.
