Saraswati came to me as I woke this morning, in the moment between sleeping and waking. She came as a deep, dark, warm pool; black in color and yet filled with light; a light that could only be experienced, not seen. This Saraswati light was familiar, full of kindness and unfathomable wisdom. As my mind became more awake, I brought my hands together and beheld this dark Saraswati light in the well of my cupped palms, which mirrored my heart. Never losing inner sight of this light, my gaze shifted to my fingertips as I prayed, as Shunyaji has taught us, “Karagre Vasate Lakshmi”, then back to the cupped palms, “Kara Madye Saraswati”, and to the base of my hands, “Kara Moole Situ Gauri”, and then all of my hands, “Mangalam Kara Dashanam.”  Rising from my bed, following my morning routine, I settled into my daily learning time, when I listen/relisten to a recording of Shunyaji’s teaching. Today, because of Saraswati’s “visit”, I decided to relisten to the Saraswai section of the audio version of Roar Like A Goddess. As I was contemplating the symbolism of Saraswati’s veena, I pondered the idea that her celestial music is much more than music, but sound itself - the sound of creation, which is also the essence of the vedas (AUM), and at a mundane level, the faculties of speech and hearing in service of dharmic communication. I thought about how sometimes teachings, especially bhakti teachings, can sometimes feel to me like a “layering on” of information - but when the teachings have (after repetition, contemplation and, I believe, Grace) reached a deeper, experiential level, what emerges is an inner knowing, which is almost indescribable, and feels pared down rather than layered on, and settles in my heart and mind with a deep sense of peace. Thank you Saraswati Maa, who is Bhrahma, who is Ishwara, for this glimpse of AUM. Thank you Acharya Shunyaji and Sampradaya, Parampara, Shastra, and all who participate in this Sangha.
