Guru Purnima 2025
A Sacred Page for the Disciples of Acharya Shunya & Sarayu Parampara
To be a disciple is to recognize the One who shows the way—and to follow, with heart surrendered.
Guru Purnima is the most sacred day in our lineage. It is the time when disciples turn inward and bow to the eternal presence of the Guru—through whom the light of Truth, the path of Dharma, and the remembrance of the Self has been revealed.
This is not a public celebration. This page is a private space, created for the disciples of Acharya Shunya—disciples who, through some unseen grace, have recognized their Guru and begun to walk the ancient path of awakening.
Here you will find the teachings, rituals, gifts and offerings that will guide our shared observance in 2025. Whether near or far, let us gather—one lineage, one heart, one flame of devotion.

Significance of Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima is observed on the full moon (Purnima) of the Vedic month of Ashadha (June–July), just after the summer solstice. This is no ordinary full moon—it is the one on which divine remembrance dawns, as disciples across time and space turn inward to honor the source of their awakening: the Guru.
Traditionally known as Vyasa Jayanti, this sacred day marks the divine birth of Bhagavan Vedavyasa, who compiled the Vedas and composed the Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita too (though Lord Krishna spoke it). Rishi Vyasa can be considered part originator and part compiler and editor of the most divine and holy texts from Vedic tradition. Though he did not begin the Vedic tradition, he sustained and preserved it, making it accessible to future generations.
His birth is not just a historical event—it is a symbol of the light of knowledge crystallizing in human form.

The Light of the Guru Shines On
If you couldn’t join us live, the door is still open. Watch the Guru Purnima celebration and let the blessings of our lineage gently enter your heart: On this sacred full moon, we bowed to the lineage of awakened teachers who illumine our path. The blessings of the Guru are timeless—watch the replay and receive their light, love, and wisdom.
A Guru Purnima Morning at the Home of Acharya Shunya
On the sacred morning of Guru Purnima, disciples Sadhya Soham, Sadhya Gayathri, and Sadhya Vimala were welcomed into the home of Acharya Shunya. These quiet moments—shared in devotion, presence, and gratitude—reflect the timeless intimacy of the Guru–disciple bond.

In the Sarayu Parampara, we feel a personal and sacred closeness to Rishi Vyasa, for his very roots lie in our own spiritual soil. His grandfather was the great sage Rishi Vashishtha, and his grandmother the illumined Rishika Arundhati—both residents of Ayodhya, and revered as Mahāgurus in our lineage. Thus, Vyasa is not only a luminary of the Sanatana Dharma, but a spiritual ancestor in our very own home of knowledge.
Our lineage flows from Ishvara as the divine pair Narayaṇa and Mahalakṣmi, to Vasiṣṭha and Arundhatī, through Rishi Shakti, Rishi Parashara, Rishi Vyasa, Rishi Shuka, Gauḍapada, Govinda Yogindra, and ofcourse Shri Adi Shankaracharya, down through time to us today.

In more recent generations, this sacred river of wisdom has flowed through:
'Badey Baba' Shanti Prakash Acharya – a radiant Vedic seer, householder, and visionary teacher,

and now into
'Acharya Shunya – the first woman spiritual head of this lineage, who has brought the ancient teachings into the hearts and homes of sincere seekers worldwide, without dilution or compromise.
Guru Purnima is not merely a cultural or ritual occasion. It is a living moment of transmission—a sacred pause to honor the Ones who came before, the Ones who awakened us, and the Truth that lives on in our hearts because of them.

Read More About Your Vedic Name
On this Guru Purnima, we honor the disciples who have been blessed with Vedic names by Acharya Shunya, either through direct request or sacred proximity to the teacher.
May these names serve as quiet invocations of the Divine.
May they call each one toward the ideals of Saraswati, Lakshmi, Durga, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
May they become living mantras—unfolding over time with grace, humility, and inner transformation

Offer Your Dakshina
A Gesture of Gratitude, A Circle of Completion
In the Vedic tradition, after receiving wisdom, disciples would offer dakshina—not as payment, but as a symbol of inner reverence, humility, and the sacred wish to uphold the transmission for future generations. Dakshina is the disciple’s way of saying: “ I wish to honor and sustain the light that enlightens me.”
On Guru Purnima, the full moon of remembrance, offering dakshina becomes an act of sacred reciprocity. It completes the inner circle between Guru and disciple, knowledge and embodiment, receiving and offering. It affirms that what we have been given is not casual or disposable—but priceless.
If you feel moved to offer your dakshina in honor of this lineage, you may do so here:

ब्रह्मानन्दं परमसुखदं केवलं ज्ञानमूर्तिं
द्वन्द्वातीतं गगनसदृशं तत्त्वमस्यादिलक्ष्यम् ।
एकं नित्यं विमलमचलं सर्वधीसाक्षिभूतं
भावातीतं त्रिगुणरहितं सद्गुरुं तं नमामि ॥
I Bow to the Sadguru
who is the bliss of pure being,
the giver of supreme peace,
the embodiment of wisdom alone.
Beyond all opposites,
as vast and open as the sky,
pointed to by the great Mahavakya, “Tat Tvam Asi”—You Are That.
One without a second,
eternal, unmoving, and pure,
the silent witness of all that comes and goes.
Beyond thought, beyond form,
beyond the pull of the three guṇas—
I bow again and again to That True Teacher.
