Nirvana Shatakam class 1 time stamp 49:45 clarifies how to do Mananam

What a blessing today to revisit Nirvana Shatakam class #1. At timestamp 49:45, Shunyaji reviews the process of Mananam. I remember hearing this the first time and thinking – I must remember to do this, as a more formal practice of Mananam, but I ended up forgetting after all! I will now be forging a path to stronger/deeper Mananam by adopting Acharya Shunya’s recommendations. The photo is a notebook I had recently purchased that I will now use for my daily Mananam. In the past I've often taken notes, but not in one place, and only occasionally have I revisited or used them in relation to other teachings. So now I will be more deliberate in this process of Mananam. It will be an interesting experiment!

I’ve tried to summarize what Shunya explains in the video:

To keep us from going round and round with our learning process, so that we aren’t just excited by new teachings, and busy trying to apply them to daily life, instead Mananam must become a confirmation of what we already know. Mananam is not meant to help us make connections at the jiva level (the mundane circumstances of life). It is for us to make connection with Shastra so that over time, we create a web/map of deep understanding, and eventually, learning shall end and Jnana/revelation shall begin.

Steps:

Listen(Shravanam)

Recall 3 things I have understood that connect deeply within

Write them down

Hold onto them

Think about them some more

Then next time I’m listening to a teaching/shastra, 2 or 3 thoughts

might connect with the previous understandings. Note this

connection

Repeat this process, building upon connections over time, creating a

web/map of deep understanding.

I’m so grateful for these teachings and for revisiting Nirvana Shatakam. (Don’t we always find something “new” or especially timely when we review teachings for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th times?!)

Jai Maa!

I appreciate your summary here as it helps with a map for me as well.
