A conversation: God and Acharya

“How can I walk the path of Bhakti,

devotion, when I stumble and forget everyday God?”

I heard back:

“That IS the path - stumbling, and still showing up. Falling and still whispering my name.”

“So even when I'm distracted, you're near?”

“Closer than near”, she said. “I am the one waiting behind your every excuse, the one who loved you before your first prayer, the one who will love you even if you forget to pray ever again.”

“So you're not keeping score?”

God, mother laughed. “I'm not a judge. I am the mother who feeds you in your forgetfulness. I am the friend who walks behind you gathering your broken offerings. I am the beloved who sees the longing you haven't spoken aloud.”

“Why? Why do you stay even when I leave?”

“Because love is my nature.”

With these words from God, what more could I even say?

I returned. Returned to my true self, where God and I are one.  I return not with fanfare, not with perfection, not with any loud gestures - just with the truth restored.

And God said, “I'm here. Welcome home.”
